El Salvador Artifact #1: The El Salvadorian flag

El Salvador is a strong country, rich in history with a population of 6,377,853, and rich in natural history. The flag itself has its meaning based on the natural components of the land.

I chose the National flag because it would be the first thing someone uses to describe or reference the country. It's also an important piece of the culture due to its representation of the government standing between Guatemala and Mexico, Salvador did not want to be apart of either, declaring its own independence. The El Salvadorian flag is also very similar to the American Flag, it has strong symbolism similarities, which aren't coincidental since the U.S had significant impact in the helping of Salvador in the civil war.

This artifact relates to the Spanish culture because its a representation of the unity of a nation, it represents equality and the three branches of Salvadorian government. The upper blue stripe represents the sky, while the lower blue stripe stands for the ocean, while the Central white stripe represents peace, within the white stripe there is a detailed coat of arms which represents El Salvador.

is a yellow triangle with five volcanoes rising from the ocean.(Flag, 2023)

This represents the tragic history of volcanic eruptions, which will be my next artifact.

It’s important to the Spanish culture because it shows their history and their future. It was first adopted on September 4,1908.I chose the flag because it would be the first thing someone uses to describe or reference the country. It's also an important piece of the culture due to its representation El Salvador, which in Spanish means ‘the savior’, gained its independence from Spain on  September 15th, 1821 and independence from the Central American federation. The coat of arms in the Centre of the flag resembles that used by the former central American federation and includes the national motto "Dios, union, libertad" ("God, union, liberty").
